Do I have to worry about termites in firewood?

Generally not. You want your firewood dry (so that it burns well). If you cut it, split it and put it outside and up off the ground out of the rain, then it will dry quickly and any termites in it will slowly die. Ants and other predators will help. The only way this doesn’t work is if you are in a humid area with a drywood termite caused by ignorance of termites Drywoods may persist for a long time as the wood slowly dries. If you do find termites, don’t do silly things like this guy who caused a major fire. Cut early, well before the cold weather, and let the sun and the air do the work for you. Unless the wood contains a nest, only a few of the major pest species can rebuild a colony from the workers and soldiers feeding in the wood.
