The habitats used by termites are very varied. Many types like to live in their food, but lots will nest in the soil. The ones that eat houses usually come from a natural forest habitat, but lots of other do stranger things like eat grass or even the compost in soil.
Their habitat is defined by their physical needs:- not too hot, not too cold, not too dry and not too wet with air to breathe and only gradual changes with the seasons. They need shelter and protection from predators. Many types build elaborate nests and control who gets inside. |
